Hi Everyone

Just to give everyone my background, I am 39 year old Female and was previously married to a man who was both verbally and physically abusive and tore down my self esteem to nothing. Since then, I have met a wonderful husband and just celebrated my two year wedding anniversary. I have been diagnosed with depression, general anxiety disorder (which I have had since childhood), and bi polar disorder (not sure about this one, but do have the tendencies). Currently I am on 3 .5mg Xanax a day, 1 100mg of Lamitical at night, and 1 75mg of Effexor in the morning. I have been on this combination for several months. I still have the feelings of disappointment, disappointing others, memory loss, the feeling that everything is going to go wrong (bubble bursting. Example is that I would lose my job even though my employer loves my performance or my husband leaving me (even though we have a great marriage). Another big worry I have had lately is becoming pregnant, which is been a struggle for the last year. In regards to the Bi Polar, I don't notice it, but my husband can sometimes notice my mood swings, though not frequently. Are mood swings part of GAD? Have others in this forum experienced these same combination of feelings and what are they doing to combat them or combination of medicines are they taking? I am looking for someone to relate to my experience and some advice of what to get from a doctor, as I am not sure he is doing too much for me. Thanks for your help.

Michele

Hope this helps....

Generalized anxiety disorder, or GAD, deals with people that are constant worriers and are always tense. The thing about this is that there really isn't a cause for this, nor is anyone or anything at fault to provoke it. They look for the worst and are always extremely worried about work, family health and money. They even feel anxiety in the course of their normal day.

If this pattern is consistent for at least six months, a person can be considered as suffering from GAD. They feel that they cannot stop worrying even though the concern is not as great as they make it out to be.

It's difficult for them to relax, they are easily startled by people or noises and they have a hard time focusing. Sometimes they cannot sleep at night or wake up in the morning on their own. Here are some other symptoms that contribute to generalized anxiety disorder: Feeling tired, Aching muscles, Irritable, Nauseated, Sweaty, Lightheaded, Shortness of breath, Frequent trips to the bathroom, Shaking or trembling, Hot flashes

Thanks for your post Marvz. I definitely think I do have GAD as I have had exactly what you are describing for a long time. I am trying to have a child soon and am currently weening myself off my medications. Does anyone know what is safe to treat this when you are indeed pregnant?
