Self Help for your Nerves by DR Claire Weekes

I am an anxiety sufferer who has suffered from panic attacks in the past. I have read this book and I have found parts of it very helpful. The book is a guide to dealing with anxiety in general, and also gives tips on dealing with panic attacks. I find that many of the stories and accounts in the book are very similar to what I have experienced. In this sense the book can give what feels like specific advice that I can relate to and follow.

I am not a big fan of reading; this is the first book I have read in 4 years. Saying that reading this doesn’t feel like reading a novel, it’s more like reading a user guide or news paper as it contains facts and advice. The book isn’t very long my copy is less than 200 pages and reading it all together wouldn’t take very long at all.

This isn’t the sort of book you have to read once and you are instantly “cured”. I often go to a certain chapter that tells me how to deal with a panic attack and just to go over the advice that is given. Different parts of the book are useful at different times.

I understand that some people who read this book are suffering from a full nervous break down, and this book can help people who have got the full on break down, or people who just have occasional nervous problems.

Parts that I have found most useful are the beginning part of the book where it describes how the nervous system works. It made me feel that this is just a normal bodily reaction and backed up what my doctor had told me, panic attacks are just my bodys’ natural reaction against what I consider to be a threat.

Cure of nervous attacks is another part of the book I found useful as it has some tips on reducing the extent of panic symptoms. Loss of confidence and apprehension are 2 more sections of the book that I can relate to directly and I have looked back over them many times for guidance in difficult times.

I personally am glad I got the book and its so cheap it is worth a try if its going to help.

Hope I was of some help. I told Shoe I would write this review for the site...it may not be wot every1 on here is looking for but i think its £7 on amazon so i think its worth a shot!
